Today's TLA is GRB (vol. 1)

Goal: Read Bible

I just read the first 10 chapters of Genesis and there's a lot of heavy stuff there. First with the fall of Adam, then the story of Cain and Abel, and then goes to the flood story with Noah. Here are some of my notes and thoughts on the first 10 chapters.

The early stories of Genesis deal with nakedness for some sort of reason. The fall of Adam is kinda funny if you think about it. Basically Adam and Eve find out that they are naked, after the serpent tempts them to eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Adam cowardly looks for leaves to cover himself, I mean come on Adam. Dude your the first man on earth. Why should he have had so much shame and self-consciousness? Did Eve have another man to compare to Adam's manliness? Eve didn't have her girlfriends around to talk about him. Was Adam White? Was Adam Black? Was Adam Asian? Did he just get out of the pool? Also, Adam automatically points to the woman (Eve) for his downfall. It's such a typical male response. Basically he said "I didn't do it, she made me do it God..." Adam, what were you thinking man? Men got punk'd because of his lack of leadership, lack of discipline, blaming, and lack of courage. But God's grace was still with Adam. He could have just blasted him to dust right there and there, but he was looking for Adam. God asking Adam "Where are you?" is hella deep. God knows perfectly well where Adam is. God created everything. How can Adam hide from God? How can anyone hide from God after we sin?

Noah's story after the flood also talks about nakedness. Plain and simply one night Noah partied hard. He partied and drank so hard that he passed out naked in his tent. Ham, one of Noah's sons saw Noah naked and told his 2 other brothers. Shem and Japheth covered Noah and made sure they didn't see Noah's nakedness. Noah curses Ham (the Canaanites) and tells Ham that he will be slaves to his brothers Shem and Japheth for seeing his nakedness. But wait Noah, dude if you can't take the heat then don't drink so damn much. If you party so hard that you pass out naked anywhere and someone sees you, dude then it's on. The gloves come off buddy. It's like falling asleep first at camp. You know you're gonna get messed with. But Ham was kinda weird if you think about it. Dude that's your dad... Why would you look? There are things that you just don't do and that's one of them. It's like when you're in the men's room and when someone says hi or what's up next to your urinal, just look straight ahead and acknowledge their existence there's no point looking down...

Cain and Abel is very interesting. My friends would talk and argue about hunter gatherers vs. agricultural societies were the metaphors in this story. Also the line, "Am I my brother's keeper?" That's just one of the most hardcore sayings in the Bible. It just sounds like it should be a line in a Hollywood film.

Anyways, my goal is to read the Holy Bible from end to end in 2 years. These are my notes and thoughts from Genesis 1 to Genesis 10.
